On PvP Gear

Dear anyone who thinks S2 gear is easy to get,

Please, go do 30 WSG PUG matches. Then do 50 AV PUG matches. Then do 50 AB PUG matches. Once you’ve done that, please come back and tell me how easy it is to get. Until you’ve done that, your opinion means very little to me.

Tell me how easy this gear is to get after doing match after match of battlegrounds with incompetent morons who want to go all on D in WSG. Who want to zerg the opposing general in AV, leaving no one on D or to guard graveyards or towers. Who can’t be bothered, if they’re the last person at a node in AB, to actually stand there and call out incomings. Who can’t even be bothered to be at their fucking keyboard. After all of that, please come back and tell me this gear is easy to farm, that it’s welfare epics.

The S2 gear has a high cost. It’s not the honor, it’s not the marks, it’s not the time invested. It’s the frustration, misery, and general hatred for humanity you develop in being forced to PvP with the lowest common denominator, the BG PUG player. They don’t know how to play their class, they don’t know how to PvP, they don’t know how to win a BG. There are only two things in the world these people excel at. Acting like douchebags, and making your life miserable.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have 23 more WSG marks of honor to farm.

P.S. The number of BGs I listed gets you 5 pieces of gear. Leaving quite a few remaining to get if you want the whole set. Doing just the BG you really enjoy to get a single piece does not qualify you to make broad, sweeping generalizations about how easy all of the gear is to get.

Hear hear. I am currently grinding 27k honor for the swords for my latest alt, and it’s excruciating. I would rather run 5 million instances with people I like than continue grinding honor, but the S2 weapons are too good. 😦

It’s not welfare epics for me, I actually have to work hard to get them.

I’m in a similar boat, for different reasons. I’m actually trying to get into Arena with a couple guildies(3v3 with Boomkin/Lock/Priest is crazy good), and I need to get my stam/resil up, which means grinding honor for S2 stuff at the same time as banking arena points for S3/S4. Although luckily, since I’ve gone balance over resto, I’m not as concerned about upgrading my legs and focusing on my shoulders now, which means I’m free of the WSG grind. still gotta grind the honor, but that means lots of AV and beating my head against the pvp daily.

See, for myself, I hate PvP. Detest it. Revile it. I won’t do it unless I’m absolutely forced into it and, even then, I’ll spend a few weeks looking for some way out of it. Some way to upgrade that piece I need in a way that doesn’t require PvP. Ask Martin, he’ll tell you.

When I finally do give up, I’ll focus on that ONE piece I absolutely can’t upgrade any other way and spend several days just bashing my little PvP brains out to get it, and then I won’t PvP again until I’m up against a wall. I just get too frustrated with people’s incompetencies and inability to understand how to do a battleground.

I recently switched to a combat dagger spec and bought the new badge dagger and needed to get the PvP offhand until I could afford the badge one. I actually had a guy in the battlegrounds who encouraged everyone to simply stand around and give up to “make it faster”. Don’t bother trying, folks! Just close your eyes and think of England!

I just love BGs ^_^ – it was nice to get gear for playing them too.

The “just lose” toons piss me off more than being repeatedly ganked by level 70 alliance during one of those darn chicken escort quests.
